Pat It Again...

My personal favorite bat-shit crazy fundamentalist hypocrit Pat Robertson is once again providing a shining example of xian love and compassion.

Through Pat we have been made aware that 9/11 was punishment for the rampant homosexuality, feminism, and whatever other pet peeves of his (Pat's or Gods - you choose). He also let us in on Hurricane Katrina being a protest against Ellen Degeneres hosting the Emmys. And then there's that whole business about the call for the execution of a publically elected offical.

Now, Pat brings us up to date on God's extreme benevolence with the anouncement that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's recent stroke was punishment meted out by God for Israel's withdrawl from Gaza.

"God says, 'This land belongs to me, and you'd better leave it alone,'" he said.

While I've yet to find that exact verse in the Bible, it does make me wonder about a chunk of a few hundred years or so when the "Promised Land" wasn't exactly controlled by "God's chosen people." How many aneurisms was God sending out for that divison?

I'm also led to wonder about God's omnipotence. Here's a guy who can seriously kick some ass - one would think - but, this smiting isn't all that impressive, now is it? I mean, Sharon isn't, well, dead, and isn't that what smiting is all about? But, in this situation, mere humans have managed to keep the smoted alive. Doesn't say too much about the power of the hand of God, now does it?

Oh, yeah:

Robertson spokeswoman Angell Watts said of people who criticized the comments: "What they're basically saying is, 'How dare Pat Robertson quote the Bible?'"

"This is what the word of God says," Watts told the AP. "This is nothing new to the Christian community."

And Pat being absolutely out of his friggin mind is nothing new to the rational segment of the community.
